Some people just can’t keep their gaming inside their computer. They need it to surround them on shelves and possibly as the centerpiece of a dining room table. These people are awesome/crazy and they mostly reside over at Tomopop where they’ve just given us a look at the new World of Warcraft figures that are coming out soon.
The figures are produced by DC Unlimited and don’t have a firm release date yet, but they’re coming at some point. There are three figures in the Series 7 collection and two figures in the Premium Series 3 collection. If you’re not into premium things, you can pick up Orc Rogue Garuna, Human Paladin Judge Malthred, and Worgen Spy Garm Whitefang. If you are into premium things, then you may want to instead pick up Orc Warrior Garrosh HellScream, and Troll Hunter Taz’Dingo. If you’re into both premium and regular things, then you can just pick them all up.
Next Thanksgiving you’ll have the perfect centerpiece for sure.

Square Enix has released a new trailer for upcoming action game Nier and, if I’m not too mistaken, that magic book’s voice is Kain from the famous Legacy of Kain series. Same English accent, same delicious pomposity. Yep, that’s Kain alright. Great stuff.
Nier is looking like it’ll be a hot one. The violence mixed with comedic silliness has potential to be a winner, and I am very much looking forward to checking it out. Anybody else interested in this one?
According to Gamasutra, a recently released report from the NPD Group claims online gaming increased by 10 percent in 2009. Furthermore, the number of games purchased via digital distribution increased by 20 percent in the same period, marking a 19 percent increase over the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of gamers that play online decreased by 2 percent. The overall increase in online gaming was the result of gamers playing online longer — an average of eight hours per week, up from 7.3 the previous year.
Breaking it down by platform, the PC sees the most use overall with 85 percent of PC owners playing online. Among gaming consoles, the Xbox takes the online cake, with 43 percent playing it online. The PS3 and Wii both tie at 30 percent, though it’s worth noting that PS3 online use is up 10 percent over the previous year.
The question has to be asked: What are all those Wii owners playing? There can’t be that many copies of Mario Kart Wii out there. Oh, wait …

As lead combat designer of God of War III, Adam Puhl has the enviable position of creating an arsenal of weapons and abilities fit to take down the gods. I recently spoke with Adam about the design process for such a titanic task and the pressures of surpassing the first two God of War games. Additionally, Adam offered his gameplay reactions to Dante’s Inferno and Darksiders, two recent action-adventures that owe a lot to the God of War series.
Read on after the break for the full interview.

Sure, you could guess that it was sex, drugs or rock and roll that addled Whitesnake vocalist David Coverdale’s mind so much that he can’t recall with any clarity which music game franchise he recently approved the band’s “Here I Go Again” and “Still of the Night” for. And you’d probably be right — if anyone took too many drugs and rocked a little too hard in the late ’80s, it was probably Coverdale.
But don’t jump to conclusions. Did you ever consider that maybe he was choosing to make a statement about the genre and its recent creative stagnation? Perhaps by saying, “I can’t remember which one,” he was actually opining that we haven’t seen any real innovation in the “strum on the note” experience since the first Rock Band added other instruments. Perhaps Coverdale was actually calling for both Harmonix and Neversoft to reach out for originality, distinguish themselves and their respective games, and stop releasing copy after copy of what are essentially the same experiences. It was either that, or the too many drugs thing.

“The richness of the technology is going to really enable experiences that never had existed before,” said Microsoft’s Aaron Greengerg to CVG at X10 last week. “And we’re not just speaking about what we’re doing this year, but I think two, three, four, five years from now as this evolves.”
That sounds promising. I like that Microsoft is not afraid to talk big about Natal. They’re not afraid to give it a 5 year lifespan already. We know next to nothing about it, but we will very soon, starting out at this year’s E3 and leading all the way up to the holiday 2010 release.
“Millions of consumers this Holiday will be able to experience Project Natal and this is just the beginning of something that will change the way consumers interact with entertainment and change way our publishing partners think about game development.”
Coming from Greenberg, it sounds less like a tease and more like a promise. Again, that’s something we can appreciate.

You hear that, folks? It’s now safe to go back to Modern Warfare 2 for Xbox 360. Lately, the multiplayer has been plagued with players who like to abuse the infinite care package exploit. Not anymore. A patch fixing this issue and a few more went up on Xbox LIVE today.
- Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized
- Fix for “infinite care package” exploit
- Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry
- Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s
- Fixes to prevent various XP hacks (including the prevention of negative XP)
Thank goodness it didn’t take any longer to get the patch certified. I know a good number of you were so irritated by the care package madness that you vowed to stop playing until the situation was remedied. Well, there you are — just in time for the weekend.

Damn, Valkyria Chronicles is such a good game that it almost seems wrong that you could nab it for $20. But a good deal is a good deal, right? This is actually a great deal.
Get either Sony’s MAG or Microsoft/BioWare’s Mass Effect 2 at Toys R Us and get the beautiful strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles for only $20. Man, either way you’re getting a sh*tton of solid gaming. Our reviews for MAG and Mass Effect 2 are currently in the works, but I can say now that Valkyria Chronicles is definitely worth the $20
TRU is also running a solid games clearance right now. Wade through the crap and find some good deals. Check it out. F.E.A.R 2 is also $20.

In his latest advisory note to investors, Wedbush Morgan prognosticator and analyst Michael Pachter goes on record with his belief that we’ll see “another price cut for both systems some time this year (around summer),” noting in the email that “because its manufacturing costs are lower, Microsoft has the ability to lower price as early as March or April.”
In lieu of a price cut on Microsoft’s part so soon, Pachter feels that the company may instead introduce “a more feature-packed Xbox 360 in early 2010 (likely with a 250GB hard drive) at the same $299 price point.” The great seer believes that Microsoft will only drop the price on its console before summer “if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony,” adding that he anticipates last fall’s price cut on PS3 will continue to help Sony gain ground on Microsoft.
On the portable front, Pachter doesn’t expect PSP Go (remember that?) to make much headway this year unless Sony prices it “more reasonably,” and says that the biggest challenge facing Nintendo DS is “its own high installed base,” stating that he anticipates sales of the handheld to steadily decline in 2010. Good thing Nintendo’s started talking about a “DS2,” huh?

As the world’s most dyed-in-the-wool twin-stick shooter advocate, I found myself really wanting to fall in love with the PSP version of Army of Two: The 40th Day. My brief time with the handheld title at E3 filled me with unbridled hope — on the surface, it’s a decent-looking multiplayer action title that hearkened back to the good ol’ days of Smash TV, while simultaneously mimicking the aggro mechanics of its home console brethren. That’s a tall order to expect from such a little guy.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to test out how well the game worked in its ideal environment: With two players cooperatively tackling the campaign. Apparently, the likelihood of corralling two people with two PSPs and two copies of the game is about as low as corralling one unicorn.
