The jury is still out on Street Fighter IV for iPhone, but let it be known: You probably won’t pull off a Shoryuken — the “Rising Dragon Fist” — on your first try. Or the second. Or the third.
We learned this very quickly when trying out the game at Capcom’s Fight Club event during GDC. Granted, there is a simplified input configuration — which we discovered after this video was shot — but longtime Street Fighter fans could get a tad miffed by all the whiffs.
Should you make the $10 investment for SFIV, on your phone, you’ll probably want to spend some time in the game’s expansive “Dojo” training mode before hitting the world circuit.

Following last week’s killer deal on Batman: Arkham Asylum, Games for Windows on Demand continues its series of game sales with Street Fighter IV. Right now, the service is offering Capcom’s fighter for 50 percent off, knocking the price down to a palatable $19.99. Or, if you prefer, Impulse is also offering it for the same price. Of course, it’s worth noting that Super Street Fighter IV will be released in just a month, so you might just skip the whole thing and wait for a couple of weeks.
Unless, of course, the allure of “a nifty little special set of things” is just too much to resist.

Attention, Internet: I have some news that has the potential to instantly make your weekend way better than it possibly could have been otherwise. As long as you’ve got a Netflix account that includes Instant Watch, you’ll be thrilled to know that the 1994 Street Fighter movie — starring one Raul Julia (in his last film role) as M. Bison — is now available for streaming.
For the ultimate Street Fighter viewing experience, I highly recommend that you listen to the 95th episode of Podtoid, a.k.a. Bisontoid, as a Rifftrax-style audio companion to the film. It was the first movie commentary episode we recorded, and it remains my personal favorite. (My opinion is helped greatly by the awesome art that Bisontoid spawned; you can check it all out on the Podtoid forum.)
Come on, don’t tell me you have anything else to do this weekend. Why not fill the void in your life with the Podtoid cast’s reading of the Street Fighter credits in Jean-Claude Van Damme’s voice? Queue it up.

Capcom is sweetening the deal for Super Street Fighter IV in both the US and Europe with some ridiculous pre-order bonuses. In the US, a timed exclusive download pack will be available from Amazon and Best Buy, featuring “Super Classic Costumes” for Dhalsim, Fei Long, Blanka, Gen, and Guile. Fei Long has a Kato (of The Green Hornet fame) costume! Blanka has a Dan costume! Insanity! Pre-ordering from GameStop will get you a set of … thumb covers with Street Fighter characters on them. For thumb wrestling. The game will be out April 27 in North America.
In Europe, where Super Street Fighter IV will be released on April 30, the choice is even tougher. Capcom has yet to reveal which retailers offer which bonuses, but the choice of items is between the Super Classic Costumes pack, some iPhone covers bearing World Warriors’ faces, or t-shirts that look like Street Fighter costumes. You can see all the choices in our gallery.

Finally, after being announced by the latest issue of Famitsu and then a leaked trailer, Capcom has re-reconfirmed the addition of Street Fighter III: Third Strike’s Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley to the roster of Super Street Fighter IV. Along with the announcement, Capcom dropped a few pieces of concept art and screenshots featuring the new brawlers, posted in the gallery below. The developer also released two gameplay clips — one featuring Dudley, which we’ve posted above, and one featuring Makoto and Ibuki, which we’ve posted after the jump.
Feel free to check them out, if you’d like — however, we all know that these characters’ existence is meaningless. We’re just going to keep playing Rufus, because he’s the best character in any game, ever. Just look at him jump! How does he jump like that?

It seems like only yesterday we were telling you about three more confirmed characters for Super Street Fighter IV. Wait — it was yesterday. So then, we assume you know about Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike’s Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley joining the game’s roster. Now would be a good time to tell you that a trailer — in HD, no less — has hit YouTube, showing the newcomers pulling off their special moves (as opposed to the ho-hum ones we tend to use). There’s something a little odd though … oh, right — Capcom USA still hasn’t made an official announcement about any of this. Maybe everyone there is playing the StarCraft 2 beta.
Check our the trailer after the break.
[Thanks, Jon!]

The latest issue of Famitsu has started making the rounds and, as spotted by multiple fan sites, it contains confirmation that three new characters (well, old ones, technically) have joined the already bursting roster of Super Street Fighter IV. Newly added Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley all hail from Street Fighter III (the trio being a ninja, a karate master and a boxer, respectively). The news has the SF community crackling with excitement; even Udon Entertainment, creator of comic books based on the famous fighting series, has caught the “Here comes a new challenger!” fever.

Mad Catz’s Street Fighter IV Tournament FightSticks are currently priced to move at sonic boom speeds on Amazon at $99 for Xbox 360. Regularly priced at $150, there was a serious shortage of the peripheral last year, but now these baby Blankas are looking for a home.
For those with a little patience, the Super Street Fighter IV Tournament FightSticks are coming in April, but are priced at $150 like the original.

If you prefer Street Fighter in hand-drawn 2D instead of the look of Street Fighter IV, and if you prefer it to be … completely non-interactive, well, Capcom has some exciting news. A Super Street Fighter IV anime project is in the works from the Gonzo animation company. The anime focuses on Juri (and her weird glowing eye), but also contains “great fighting action,” “backstory goodness,” and “plenty of Cammy and the Dolls,” according to Capcom’s Seth Killian.
How to see the anime is a bit of a mystery. Capcom is offering it to Xbox 360 buyers of Super Street Fighter IV as a bonus (possibly as some kind of download or through Xbox Live Marketplace), but that offer is for Japan only. The fact that a trailer is available on Xbox Live Marketplace in North America suggests that it will be available here in some form. We’re checking with Capcom for details. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer above or through your Xbox.

Now that we know when we can get our hands on Super Street Fighter IV (April 27!) we can start flipping out in earnest about the prospect of experimenting with all the new characters. Capcom, anticipating our desire to flip out, sent out a new trailer which features all of the currently announced characters showing off what they can do. It’s totally worth watching just to see Dee Jay win, then get totally stomped in rapid succession.
Also, watch for Cody ruining a “Street Fighter: Screw the Rules” mural. What a jerk!
